Strawberry Matcha Latte

delicious drink I keep coming back to

I have been making this drink everyday lately. It’s so good. Whenever I go to a cafe or boba shop and they have strawberry matcha latte, I always have to get it. I love it so much. So I thought, why not just make my own? So I did! :D

Rather than mainly a strawberry matcha latte recipe, I feel like this post is more about how I make strawberry jam and prepare my morning matcha.

Ingredients

Strawberry Jam
2 pounds (mine turned out to be 818 grams after trimming off the ends) strawberries
614 grams (75% of strawberries) sugar
1 lemon, plus zest
Latte
2 grams matcha powder
50 milliliter hot water (80 degrees C)
Oat milk
Ice

Directions

  1. Strawberry Jam
-Wash and cut the stems off of 2 lb strawberries. Cut your strawberries into pieces for easier and quicker cooking. Add them all to a pot.
-Add 614 g sugar (75% weight of your strawberries. I had 818 g strawberries after trimming off the ends) to your strawberries along with the juice and zest of one lemon.
-Heat over medium heat and bring the mixture to a boil. Make sure to stir often. Let it boil until it reaches around 220 degrees F. Ladle off the foam if you wanted a more pristine end result. My jam took around 15-20 minutes to thicken.
-Transfer your jam to a clean container and once cool, store in the refrigerator.

  2. Matcha
    -Boil your water to 80 degrees C (176 F).
-Pour some into your whisking bowl and place your bamboo whisk into the hot water to loosen it. Transfer the hot water to your drinking cup (this step isn’t necessary if you’re making a latte but is nice to do if you’re drinking the matcha on its own. It warms the cup up so that the matcha doesn’t cool down when you transfer it). Dry your whisking bowl thoroughly with a towel.
-Then add 2-3 g matcha powder to your whisking bowl. I sift my powder through a strainer to get rid of any potential clumps. Also, you want to adjust the amount of matcha depending on your matcha, some are stronger than other.
-Pour 60-70 ml hot water into the bowl. Then mix with your bamboo whisk in a zig zag motion. I heard it’s nice to get some froth on top.

  3. Latte
-Add your jam to the bottom of a cup. This is optional but I like to use some of the hot water to loosen the jam up a bit.
-Add some ice. Then add your milk of choice. I prefer oat milk!
-Finally, add the matcha on top.
-Admire the beautiful layers then mix to get a medley of all flavors. Enjoy!

What is your go-to comfort drink?
